Consider this a gentle, pyjama-level warning for anyone who groggily wandered over to their reading nook last night and mistook a massive, velvet-bound manual on 'quantum ego-evaporation' for a simple weekend DIY pamphlet on repairing dry wall:
Take a deep, cleansing breath. That existential landmine was definitely planted on your shelf by your cubicle neighbour, who just got back from a twenty-day 'mind-melt retreat' in sunny Ojai. The whole trip was generously sponsored by a trust fund and an infinite supply of organic kombucha. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees and a guru named 'Moon-Whisper', they mastered the ancient arts of charging crystals under the lunar eclipse, skipping Monday morning Zoom calls, and completely forgetting what a shared brunch tab looks like.
Beaming with new-found inner peace, my co-worker recently shared the glorious tale of the afternoon they cornered Moon-Whisper with the ultimate, soul-shaking inquiry. Little did they know, Moon-Whisper had just unlocked a brand-new plane of cosmic realization about ten minutes prior while eating a gluten-free muffin.
'Oh, enlightened guide', my co-worker whispered, clutching their chakra stones, a lukewarm kombucha to his freshly shaven chest like a holy relic, 'are your supreme insights truly the highest peak of universal truth?'
Without a single blink, Moon-Whisper gracefully stroked his sandalwood-scented beard and chimed, 'Naturally, my little lotus flower! Just hand over all your critical thinking, float downstream on a cloud of absolute compliance, and definitely don't worry about doing any actual heavy lifting on your own personal growth'. (that's code for - under no circumstance disturb the status quo emphatically remaining unaware of any unawareness! )
Or, as the wise and ever-observant Carl Jung once put it so nicely:
"The disciple is unworthy; modestly he sits at the Master’s feet and guards against having ideas of his own. Mental laziness becomes a virtue; one can at least bask in the sun of a semi-divine being. He can enjoy the archaism and infantilism of his unconscious fantasies without loss to himself, for all responsibility is laid at the Master’s door."
